Inquiry Minds Product Portfolio Project

Review
I loved how the cover looked plain and bland, but the story really sucks you in (no pun intended) and makes you care for these characters and what happens to them. I was constantly reading to see what happened next and how Elizabeth could use the limited resources she had to try and escape the house, while keeping the kids she was baby sitting safe. This book was slow at the start and it didn't really feel like there was a threat, in the book, there were dead animals in the water but if I saw a person in there I would feel more scared. I felt like there were too many dead animals in this book, and it got old really quick, and at the end when they jumped into the water and floated down, and they didn't hit anything at all, there were tons of things in the water but i guess there weren't any under the water. This book has chapters that were really good and  then really bad, like it would be action packed there about to die then there sleeping, and talking. I get you have to sometimes have it be boring but don't be making scenes so exciting then have it be boring. I would rate this 2.8 out of 4. Click the link below to see other reviews. This book wasn't the worst book i've read but it could use quite a bit of work, in all these books no one dies, he should have killed someone off, don't just make it be a flood and have everyone ok, a family was on there house and it floated away and we don't even know if they died, there probably still alive having coffee. If you like survival stories you should read this one because no one dies.

Research and List
These are some questions I have for the author Eric Walters about what I had wonderings about.

Did the flood affect other towns or cities other than your Town and Toronto?
Was the man who was going to take Susie a pedophile?
Did the flood ever stop?
[Connection] My friend Luke actually experienced a flood and made it out alive.
Is Lizzie's dad dead?
Are the kid's parents Lizzie is babysitting dead?

So one of the main characters David reminds me a lot about someone I know and I am here to tell you the reasons why there similar and why they are still different. Lets talk about that.

So one of the main characters is independent, impatient and makes jokes at the wrong time, it's David McBride. Now the person I am connecting this to is myself. Now if you ask anyone that knows me they will all say this character could be based off of me. David had quite a bit of survival skills though which  I don't have. David had shown he had been independent all throughout the story by claiming he should have been the baby sitter and he didn't need anyone. Whenever I am given a task to do I usually like working alone I feel I don't need anyone's help and can save my self. If it is a harder task that I feel I need someone I will get people, as did David when they all got to the roof. He was also impatient because he was always trying to do things by him self, when people said wait we could all do this, he would just say ok then go and do it. When he had to get tools that were under the water, he just jumped in and kept on trying to get the tools. Then we come to my teachers least favorite... Making Jokes At The Wrong Time. I constantly do this, just recently we were watching a Earth documentary and the commentator had a really strong Irish accent and we kept on watching the beginning because he said three quarters of the Earth and we kept on laughing at it for like 20 minutes. David was constantly joking during the story and example is when his sister wants a soda, and he says well you can have water we have plenty of that. Now we are different like he has survival skills I don't and he is also in Grade 6 and I am not, he has moved schools and cities, and I haven't done that yet either. So ya that was my reasons as of why David and I are really the same person, my name is The Lazy Canadian and I approve this message!

When hard times come they sit a spell, Like kin folk come to stay A-packin' troubles, pets an' kids That always get ‘n your way. It's drought an' flood, an' flood an' drought, There ain't much in-between. You work like hell to make ’em good, But still they’re sorta lean.

The ranch went under late last year, The drought got mighty tough. The boss held-out a long, long time, But finally said, "enough!" So here I am dispatchin’ cops An’ watchin’ felons sleep, In Junction, at the county jail, A job I’ll prob’ly keep.

The wife, she works at Leisure Lodge, Where older people stay, A-makin’ beds an’ moppin’ floors To earn some ‘extra’ pay. Though “extra pay‘s” the term I used, It goes to payin’ rent, An’ after all the bills are paid, We wonder where it went.

We hocked my saddle, guns an' chaps, An' then our weddin' rings; Then when we couldn't pay the loan, They sold the 'dad-blamed' things. We felt real bad a day or two But then we let it go, Cause it got Christmas for the kids When money got real slow.

When hard times come they sit a spell, Don't matter who you are; They'll cost ya things you've set aside, An' clean your cookie jar. You'll loose some sleep an' worry some, Won't pay to moan an' groan; But hang on to your happiness, They'll finally leave ya 'lone.

So this poem connected to the book a lot to the book at the first paragraph he even says that he has to deal with kids and a dog, which Lizzie had to deal with. In the next paragraphs he just talked about other hard times when it looked like he wouldn't have made out of it, or was struggling to manage it. Then at the very last paragraph it says when hard times come sit a spell, (When the flood reaches him, and he can't escape) They'll cost ya things you've set aside (The kids and the dog) you'll loose some sleep and worry some (about how he didn't do things he could have to escape or say to loved ones) Then it says They'll finally leave you alone (You were getting frustrated trying to save everyone and you couldn't and they ended up dying)

Lizzie's Father's POV

I got a call from my wife at around 5:30 P.M saying Lizzie, my daughter was watching the McBrides kids and may be staying at there house later than usual. It was raining hard so I told my wife after work i'd swing by and stay with her and the kids. I had to go back to work so I said goodbye and got in my car with my partner Dan. "Pretty bad rain fall huh Doug?"Dan had asked me. I said "Ya hopefully it stops soon or we may be out here all night" "Do you think it could get that bad?" "I do Dan, So lets try and do this fast." We drove Pick Up Trucks trying to get people out of the rain, or help them out is our job.

4 Hours Later...

We didn't know what had happened we had to abandon our truck and try to get on a house but we were starting to slip. Dan's leg was injured, it was trapped in the truck when the water hit our side. We were trying to help get a guy and a girl out of there car it was flipped up side down we tried dragging it sideways but the water came out of nowhere and hit us we went flying into the other car as I opened the car door and jumped onto a tree, Dan did the same but was a bit down the road. I saw the car we were trying to save and it was getting destroyed the two people were... just gone. They were here a minute before and are now dead they aren't coming back.

Dan didn't look so good his leg was covered in blood and his face was very pale, he looked at me and tried speaking but couldn't speak. He looked behind him as he started crawling toward me with scared expression on his face then out of nowhere water came over the house and took Dan off of the house I yelled "No!" as I got up and ran to the edge and I saw that his lifeless body was floating in the water, down the river, never to be seen again. Then I saw three people in a tree in the middle of the water I saw light pass by them and it was Lizzie and the kids! I tried to yell at them but they didn't hear me so, I looked at the water, then back at the kids and jumped in the river. I was being tossed around and hit a car, then another and then there was a house floating in the water I tried getting out of the way but it hit me I was sent under it, looking for a way out, but I couldn't find one. I needed air badly but couldn't escape, I couldn't save them, not David, not Suzie not my daughter Lizzie who needed me, no one. I was here a minute ago and now i'm GONE.

Regular Blog #7 Corner Gas the Movie Review (EQ #5)

Well hello there, I am The Lazy Canadian and I am here to review the Corner Gas movie. It came in select theatres in Canada on December 3rd to the 7th but was back later because of popular demand. I saw it in theatres and I thought it was great, if you were a great fan of the t.v show then this will be for you. My friend who was a huge fan of the series loved it, he said it was a great end to the series, and was really creative, in a new way. Lots of people in the theatre enjoyed it, I heard people saying it was amazing.

The jokes were well placed apart, and the timing for them was great. The actors improved very much since the last episode of Corner Gas and made it actually feel real. My favourite joke was the beginning when the gas station was getting robbed and Brett asked if he had a bag and if not he has to charge him 25 cents, then the robber said ok i'll shoot you and you owe me 50 cents for the bullet and Brett said well that's not a fair comparison. I connected it to my teacher because he is always comparing things in class, so it made it way more enjoyable.

The downside was it was leaping around the place too much (too much going on) if you saw the movie you would know what i'm talking about, i'll list some but not all in case you didn't see the movie. The town was getting destroyed, Brett's mom wanted him to get married and have grand children, there's an underground Bar, and Casino, then there was a horse getting taken back and forth.
It was honestly a good movie but I wish it was a two parter so they could fit all of the ideas together.

The last thing i'll be talking about is the community. The community played a huge part
in this movie I mean the community funded it and played roles in it. I wish I could have seen it in action on the set or go and meet the cast but, I'll have to do it another day.

FINAL STATEMENT:
This movie is a must see for anyone who loved the show or likes comedy movies, i'd rate it a 3/4..

Regular Blog #6 Christmas 80 Years Ago (EQ #4)

80 years ago I believe it was peaceful, not crazy. My class saw a video that I'll link at the very end it's really crazy but my teacher said what was Christmas like 80 years ago. I think it wasn't as hectic as now and people where interacting with each other and talking to family members, not talking on the phones or texting, and playing Video Games. They were happy with what they got and didn't pout a lot about not getting something. I'm sure some did pout  but it's my vision so deal with it. They also were all together happy and enjoying the time they got to spend with each other.

I think they would focus on getting everyone together for the holidays, and making sure there parties were all set and ready to go. Make sure they got presents to put under the tree. They would get the food all ready and the drinks bought. The clothes were ready for Church as well.

Honestly I don't want to go back to the original ways of Christmas. People are on there phones for a reason and it's because they just don't want to socialize. Even though kids have died from black friday all we need to do is calm down and not trample over people to get the Xbox One or the Iphone 6. We are blessed enough as it is, we have Earth and Air and Food, why do we "need" everything that comes out.

I'm going to prioritize some things to do for them holidays.

1. Put your phone down every so often to socialize.
2. Be thankful for what you received, socks and everything.
3. Plan a party for relatives and friends.
4. Give something to someone you like (Not love but as friends or I guess people you like)
5. Share

That's it I hope you enjoyed it, i'm the lazy Canadian and I approve this message.

Seriously folks put your phones down and stop texting and blogg- never mind but in all seriousness think about what Christmas means to you and start doing it. Plan games for friends and family's, help bake with your parents, buy presents for your family and most of all enjoy your day with all of your family together.

Regular Blog #6 The Longest Night (Short Story #1) (EQ#3)

CHAPTER 1: The Beginning
So hey there, I guess your here to hear about my story. Well it all started 10 days from Christmas.
I was walking to school with my sister and she saw her friend, her friend looked at me like I just pooped in her pancakes or something. So she walked up to me and started chasing me and said "I'll kick your A#$!" and started kicking me, she was like 6 or something so I asked her where she learned that language than she replied with the same words... I wouldn't say I ran but... I may have ran away from a 6 year old girl.

After that experience I was at my school, I looked back to make sure she didn't follow me and she didn't. I was safe so I started walking and then I saw it, or him he's human I think. The guy that follows me around was walking around looking for me. I ran to the wall and hit it... but that's besides the point. He started walking away and I was safe, I walked around the corner and I saw stalker #2 he saw me and I ran away he was on my tail, I saw a shed and ran around it. He saw me and followed but he didn't know I ran around the whole shed so I shook him off.

I started to run when stalker #1 re-appeared, then my friend tackled him... ya it was not really necessary but it helped. Stalker #2 appeared and was mad he ran after both my friend and I as my friend said "I'm injured bro, I'll sacrifice myself and tackle him, so you can get away." said Night. "No Night you won't make it, i'll do it!" I replied. " Are you stupid he said, he'll get you, run!" "No, I can help you!" " Shut up and run, and remember if i'm gone you have to fight! Fight for yourself! Fight for your freedom! Fight!Fight! FIGHT!" yelled Night. " I wont let you die!" Night pushed me down and ran at stalker #2 (Named M) and tried to tackle him but M pushed him down and stomped on him. M looked at me and smiled the bell rung, Night looked hurt.

SCHOOL IS OVER

I grabbed Night and told him to meet me at my house later so we could get back at Stalker #1 (Mo) and Stalker #2 (M). He said" I don't know Red, if we go and fight back it may be over for us" "Trust me Night nothing bad will happen to us."

"Mo I heard Red and Night talking about attacking us tonight." said M. "So what should we do?" asked Mo. " We should grab our buds and teach them a lesson, i'll text them to meet us and we will discuss a plan to stop them." said M

M gathered his friends and discussed a plan, his friends were too circle his house ready to attack with dart guns. M modified them so they hurt like crazy.  His plan was good but we got our friends too,
Harsh and Austin. Harsh was on the inside with a walkie talkie, and Austin was grabbing there dart guns for us. Harsh and Austin received the emails, and told us right away. Night and I were ready to finish this.

CHAPTER 2: The Coldest War.
"Night you ready?" asked Red. "As ever." replied Night. We started walking towards the house looking at the decorations, we never noticed his men, they were hidden good. We approached the front door. I looked at Night he looked at me, we nodded and I knocked on the door. *BING* My phone went off, it was an email from M, it said attack in 30 secs. Harsh got me in the covo under a new name.

I heard the snow crunch as I heard a noise on the roof and a Santa blow up decoration fell! I pushed Night out of the way as it fell on me. " RED!" The decoration was crushing me as I heard darts getting fired. Night ran and yelled "Red, I wont leave you!" I crawled to the door and grabbed the door knob it was open! I crawled in and saw his army of men, they saw me and started to shoot. I ran to the back door where I saw Austin with the guns. "Red you made it" said Austin. "Ya I did, where's Night?" I asked. He didn't know but, gave me a dart gun and said he went to the hills he saw Harsh there and went to get him. I told Austin I'd get him and for Austin to get his snowmobile and meet us.

I ran to the hill as I heard Austin scream then hear darts being fired. I looked back and saw his hand lie there behind the house, I had to keep on moving if I tried to save Austin I might get captured. I ran on to the hill, where I saw someone with a dart gun I shot him in the back of the head and he fell down crying I grabbed his ammo and looked at him the pain he was in, I didn't want to shoot him again if I did he'd be knocked out. Then I remembered what they did to Austin and I looked at him and I shot him.

I saw where they were, I walked up and hid behind a tree, they had Night. They were punching him as Harsh watched. I was so mad at Harsh, why was he watching! I ran to the hill and was shot I fell down and looked up and saw Night, he was never down there it was someone else, he looked at me and laughed he tied me up and dragged me to a van. M and Mo where sitting there in Santa costumes, I saw Harsh and Austin, they looked horrible, Night looked at me through the doors, and said "Merry Christmas Red... I hope you survive the experience."

Part 2 The Coldest Night coming soon

Regular Blog #5 Toy Time Reviews (EQ #2)

Hello there I am The Lazy Canadian and welcome to Toy Time Reviews, the show where I review 2 toys and decide which is better. I decided to start this segment because it was December and some people still need to buy toys for their kids. Also it's for a project... but who cares.

I'll be reviewing The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Marvel Legends Spider-Man 2 figure, and the Nickelodeon Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles figures.

I'll start with Teenage Mutants Ninja Turtles. These figures are all really good there are some problems but i'll talk about them after I say what they come with. They come with weapons and holders on their backs.

  TMNT

PROS

  • Good articulation
  • Good colors on each Turtle
  • Good plastic
  • Good weapon materials
  • Good head sculpts
  • No parts re-used on the figures
  • Flat feet
CONS
  • Weapons same paint
  • Back of bandannas fall off easily
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Marvel Legends

PROS

  • Good Paint
  • Good articulation
  • Good toy material
  • Flat feet
  • Good head sculpt
  • Attention to detail
  • Take out hands easily and put others in easily
  • Easy to pose
CONS
  • Fire piece isn't very strong
Now what I mean by Fire piece isn't strong is, if you put it on something big it will take that form and won't change back. The green arm is apart of Green Goblin, if you buy all the sets in that series you can put it together to make a really cool figure.

I made this guy and he looks sick. I'd rate the Spider-Man 2 figure a 4/4, sure there was the fire piece but that didn't affect the figure it self. It is a must buy for any fan or collector of spider-man.

For the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles i'd rate it a 3.4/4 because the headbands fall off but, keep in mind i've only seen Leonardo (blue) and Raphael (red) with there head bands broken. Also I wish the weapons were not painted one color.

Well that concludes Toy Time Reviews episode 1, I hope you enjoyed the review I'm The Lazy Canadian and I approve this message, and I'll A B C YA!

Regular Blog #4 Naruto Review (Manga) NO SPOILERS

So today I will be reviewing the Naruto manga. I'll be explaining what it is and all that jazz.

NARUTO

Naruto is an anime and a manga. Manga is a Japanese graphic novel read from the right side of the book to the left, so it's read back to front. The only reason they don't switch it when they translate it is so the pictures look the same. Anime is usually a Manga turned into a anime. Anime is basically a Japanese cartoon that can be translated to English but, in the original Japanese version it has English Sub Titles.

Naruto is a great adventure book, it has an interesting story line, unique and original characters and names, great artwork, great character development and a completely new subject. I say subject because it's not strongly based off of one thing, i'm not sure it is even based off of something.

I'm going to list some pro's and con's of this book.

PRO'S

  • Unique Characters/Names
  • Interesting story line
  • Great artwork
  • Great character development
  • New topic for a book
  • Great covers
CON'S
  • Some action scenes are hard to follow
Over all this is a great series that I really enjoy. I'd rate this a 3.8 out of 4. Next time i'll be reviewing the Attack On Titan manga. I'm The Lazy Canadian and I approve this message! I'll A B C YA!

Regular Blog #3 You Can Now Attend Hogwarts!! (EQ #1)

http://sourcefed.com/you-can-now-attend-hogwarts/

So hello there I am The Lazy Canadian and i'm here to tell you that you can... wait for it... attend Hogwarts! I don't really care for Harry Potter but I think it's really cool that this has finally
happened ! You can go to a castle that looks amazing. If you want to see this beut I'll try to find a picture of it and post it at the end but if I can't then click the link at the top of the page for some pics.

So this school...or castle is located in Poland, the cost to attend this school is $345. The school will start this April and you will be staying at the Czocha Castle, or Hogwarts for all the nerds which I am, I mean that would be really cool to say. This is a fan made school for those who would like an additional 3 years of schooling after Hogwarts. Now at this school there are five different houses, which I believe are teams of some sort, but i'm not very sure. The teams are Durentius, Faust, Libussa, Molin and Sendivogius. I don't know what they mean but, i'm sure it has to do with Harry Potter, or are words that are Polish.

People will have to pass things called S.P.E.L.L's which are Senior Protective Enchanter’s Lifelong License. I believe they are testing people about their knowledge of potions from the book series and movie's Harry Potter. The program itself will be taught in English and you must be at least 18 years of age to attend. So basically it's college.
This is the school

Now I have some questions about this.

How long did it take to build this?
How many people have signed up for this?
Will people be able to attend Hogwarts again or just once?
Who is teaching this school, and how would you be able to teach here?

Our EQ (Essential Question) is How can research ensure consumers are receiving reputable goods and services? I have to say how I think this is related to our EQ.

Well these people are going to make a lot of money. Harry Potter has a huge fan base and people have been wanting to go to Hogwarts for a long time. These people would have to had research what people would want if Hogwarts was real and what the would want to learn. There are multiple websites to see this and it wouldn't be hard to find. So they would buy equipment with the money they receive and buy foods people would want and bam! They would make tons of money! Now let me explain. They use the money they receive to get foods and equipment for everything, now they lose money by doing this but gain it all back when they sell merchandise and food, and books and i'm sure there'd be movies about Harry Potter there.

So ya that's my answer, I hope you enjoyed my In The News thing, I'm The Lazy Canadian and I approve this message! Will any of you be attending Hogwarts?
